Blancpain must be just about the best race series no-one is watching. 60 odd GT3 cars from about a dozen manufacturers, racing on some fantastic circuits with some world class drivers.
This weekend was their visit to Silverstone, for a 3 hour race on the full GP track. Unlike my last trip to Silverstone I didn’t get snowed on, and we even had some sun which made the day much more enjoyable. Anyways, enough words, Picture time:
BMW in its proper M sport colours.
The solitary Aston Martin, run by Motorbase ended up coming second in the Pro-Am Class after a frantic last lap.
WRT are to Audi what AF Corse are to Ferrari it seems.
The GT-R is still running in almost full factory guise (full factory teams are banned, but Nissan is one of many manufacturers that are skirting right at the edge of these rules)
Lollipop sponsered by Lollipops
Race start was a fairly frantic affair.
Track limits?
The new 488 GT3 doesnt sound as good as the old 458s, but it looked pretty damn rapid.
The sole Porsche, in the Pro Am class.
And the sole Jaguar. This one is very much not a factory effort, with the Emil Frey team creating the car from scratch with no factory backing.
Becketts seems to send cars sideways fairly easily, with the LMP1s last month even getting a little loose during Qualifying.
The Bentley Boys had a fairly tough race, which was a shame on home turf.
The new AMG GT looks good, and thanks to retaining the old N/A engine, sounds amazing too.
The R8 must be one of the most numerous of the new GT3s.
That and the Huracan must have been close to double digits in the Blancpain
The Mclaren was about to do a Hartley, but caught it, just...
The Monkey (Chris Harris) ride.
A fair amount of tyre debris there.
More Oppo, this time into Copse.
Formation Flying from the Mclarens.
All in all a pretty good day out, and pretty good value, with the ticket only costing £20. Well worth a visit.

As always great shots! Wish we had this much motorsport going on around me and/or I had time to go there.

Thanks! Yeah I have to say living where I do is pretty great. I’ve got Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Thruxton and Goodwood within 90 minutes from mine, not bad.

Wow, that’s indeed awesome. I’ve only got the Eurocircuit and Speedway venray within an hour, but the former is a rally cross track and the latter an oval, so they don’t see that much use really. Zanvoort is probably something like 2 hours since the traffic on the last part to the track is awful.
